MGU3A's radio (Salabhavaani) was conceived by Jayalakshi Krishnakumar (JK) and is a novel concept, that has multiple effects on society, by engaging the senior citizens in the radio platform through their unique and valuable experience, the radio disseminates valid and socially relevant content to the global society. As part of the functional areas of the MGU3A, Salabhavani will play an important role in thinking and rethinking the social needs of senior citizens, it is a novel project that addresses the social needs of Senior Citizens in Kerala and abroad. Salabhavani certainly creates a unique identity for the MGU3A and I hope the rest of the U3A models in the World will take this as an example.

Voice of the Voiceless Seniors.
In history there are persons and movements that get recorded as the voice of the voiceless. I am delighted to acknowledge that in the history of the University of the 3rd Age in India, perhaps in the world, there is a person who is that voice and an organization which is that voice.
The person here is JK ( Jayalekshmi Krishnan ) and the organization here is MGU3A( Mahatma Gandhi University of the 3rd Age)
I understand that Hon.Vice Chancellor Dr.C T Aravindakumar has invited JK and team to establish a radio for the university itself. Jk is a genius as well as a team player . Often these two do not go together. Congratulations to Radio Salabhavaani 24.9 team..

Salabhavani 24.9 – A Companion for Our Golden Generation
Radio has always been more than just a medium of communication—it is a companion, a storyteller, and a bridge that connects hearts. In today’s fast-paced world, where many senior citizens face loneliness and isolation, the launch of Salabhavani 24.9 – Powered by MGU3A is a deeply meaningful and much-needed initiative.
I sincerely appreciate Mahatma Gandhi University and U3A Kerala for recognizing the silent struggles of the elderly and creating this platform, which will serve as an intimate friend to them. I would also like to acknowledge Mrs. Jayalakshmi Krishnan (JK), who has been deeply passionate about radio for the last 37 years, for taking the initiative to develop the idea of a dedicated radio station for senior citizens. She met me at my office last day and shared her vision for Salabhavani 24.9, which truly resonated with me. As someone who has spent 42 years in the field of radio as a broadcaster, this initiative made me immensely happy. I take this opportunity to congratulate her on her dedication and vision in bringing this project to life.

Heartfelt congratulations to Smt. Jayalekshmi Krishnan on her inspiring decision to associate with Salabhavaani 24.9, a radio station dedicated exclusively to the elderly. While she had several opportunities to pursue other ventures post-retirement, her choice to dedicate her time and energy to this noble initiative, approved by MG University U3A, speaks volumes about her compassion and commitment to society.
A platform for the elderly, by the elderly, Salabhavaani 24.9 promises to be more than just a radio station — it will be a celebration of experience, talent, and wisdom. By incorporating their creative expressions and life stories, it will serve as a meaningful bridge across generations, ensuring that the voices of our elders continue to inspire and resonate.
Wishing Smt. Jayalekshmi Krishnan and the entire team great success in this beautiful endeavor. May this initiative bring joy, purpose, and recognition to those who truly deserve it.
